– A social worker visited the apartment after the girl failed to report to childcare for three days
– The girl survived on spilled cereals
A three-year-old girl in Connecticut, US, survived for several days alone in an apartment after her mother passed away unexpectedly.
When the toddler, whose identity has been withheld because she is a minor, failed to report to childcare for three days, a social worker visited her mother’s apartment to investigate.
The social worker found the girl’s mother, 37-year-old Twanna Toler, dead in the apartment and the little girl alone with her mother’s dead body. She had been eating cereals that had spilled on the floor to survive.
Local police told reporters that initial investigations did not reveal any sign of crime or forced entry into the apartment, and that an autopsy was being conducted on Toler’s body.
Susan Tash, a neighbor living on the same block of apartments, said she was shocked that such a thing could happen without anyone knowing for several days.
Social workers took the girl, who was fine despite being slightly dehydrated, into their care at the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.
